Saya sudah uzur! Seberapa uzurkah daku (=How old am I)? Sedemikian uzurnya, sehingga terkadang mengenal perangkat keras yang sudah lama tidak lagi digunakan!

Topik hari ini ialah mesin ketik, sebuah mesin cetak yang biasanya tidak menggunakan listrik. Bagaimanakah cara menggunakan mesin tik?

Pertama-tama kita harus menyisipkan selembar kertas. Kalau memerlukan kopian, kita menggunakan kertas karbon. Ya, itulah asal-usul dari istilah "Carbon Copy (CC:)".

Bagaimana kalau mau membuat ratusan kopi, seperti umpamanya soal ujian? Untuk hal tersebut, digunakan mesin stensil (sablon). Master stensil dapat dibuat dengan mesin tik, atau pun dengan perangkat "Electric Stencil'. Hingga pertengahan tahun 1980an, mesin foto kopi masih merupakan barang mewah. Pada saat tersebut, ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) pun masih menggunakan mesin stensilan.

Salah satu ke-istimewa-an keyboard mesin tik ialah tidak ada tombol "ENTER". Sebagai pengganti, ada sebuah tuas manual yang menggembalikan "CURSOR" kembali ke sebelah kiri. Hanya ada satu pilihan satu font yaitu "Courier", dengan hanya satu ukuran! Selain itu, hanya ada satu pilihan "Left Allignment". Kalau kursor sudah hampir sampai ujung kanan, maka akan ada bunyi Bel "Ting".

Bagaimana kalau membuat kesalahan? Itulah gunanya Tipp-Ex dalam bentuk lembaran kertas mau pun cairan!

Bagaimana dengan "COPAS" (COpy and PAste)? Ha... ha... ha... SAVE? @#~&^%(&(*^%&%&^%&%& !

UBUNTU: How can I test my hard drive health?

The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd) to control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA/SATA, SCSI/SAS and NVMe disks.

How to install:

sudo apt-get install smartmontools -y

How to use on (e.g.) /dev/sda:

sudo smartctl --health /dev/sda

STOP!

The disk is either HEALTHY or NOT! But...

To be a SMART a*hole, and assuming to understand all the output:

sudo smartctl --all /dev/sda
